This evening I went to the gym in my first visit to start to restore the work I had begun some two plus years ago. Further more I did not go alone as Holly joined me.
My work included 300 Calories on the Cross Trainer, one that seemed to work properly. This took the best part of 40 minutes, which is typical progress with the heart rate running at 150 BPM and Def Leppard playing on the headset.
Following this I used two machines to work on arm and upper body strength. These being the “Low Row” and the “Chest Press”. The problem is I am starting again here so I looked to my notes as to where I was the last time I visited.
Right back at the beginning I started with the “Low Row” machine set to 30. By the time I last recorded a session I was running at 55. I reasoned this was probably a bit enthusiastic but not knowing where I would be I decided to set 50. This was hard work but I did manage the 3 sets of 10 reps.
For the “Chest Press” machine I remember this to be more difficult to progress on. I had started at 20 and had progressed to 30. I choose 30. That was hard work but I managed the 3 sets of 10 reps.
Holly had go on to the running machine, something I had not got on with but I joined her, none the less. I set the machine for 50 Calories to see how I got on. I started on a fast walk and then progressed to a brief run. It was brief because within about three minutes the machine was warning me my heart rate was too high, and I knew it. So I slowed back to the fast walk, finishing the 50 Calories in six minutes. This faster than the cross trainer but I think I’ll stick with the cross trainer for sustained work.
Following that I had burnt 700 Calories,as recorded on the Garmin, and felt like I had had enough. Holly, on the other hand was not working as hard as I had and was favouring a slower and more sustained approach. So we agreed I would leave her to it and come on home. By the time I got to the door then I had recorded 790 Calories burnt in 1 hour 47 minutes.
Holly rolled in about 30 minutes later.
