So a few things down with the HID lighting project. Firstly I have gone to electronic ballasts. I picked up four units that are much smaller and lighter than the lump of a unit I bought before. I have set two of these up in the workshop. They work well but there is a big issue with the colour of the SON bulbs.
So I then researched and discovered that these electronic ballasts can also drive “Metal Halide” bulbs. So I bought a pair of these. They look like this.
Now why would I do this? Well, quite simple. Their light output is nearly pure white, with excellent colour rendering.
In fact these bulbs are so good I bought another pair.
