Office costings

One might think what is the cost of doing all of this. Well, obviously having the skills, which I have accumulated from previous experience, observation or education. That saves a lot of money. So for me its the material costs, mostly. I’ll get the the “mostly” bit in a minute.

These are the costs so far, and I am happy to share this.

Plaster board, door and door lining kit – £103.93
Bulk of construction timber, first batch of flooring and insulation – £133.20
Something else, can’t remember what – £34.35
Electrical kit and second batch of flooring – £190.28
Second batch of plaster board – £31.60

So, so far I have spent £493.68.

What else do I see I need?

Most likely more constructional timber, flooring, plaster board and maybe insulation. Not on the scale of what I have bought so far though.

I will need some hinges and a lock kit for the door.

I need some Cat 5 Ethernet cable.

There are likely to be other things to add to this but nothing of great financial value. I suspect another £250. Lets see if I’m close.

What about the “mostly” bit? Well there is another aspect that I should consider. The electrical system certification. One cannot just put in electrics and have done with it any more. Since Part P of the building regulations came out then all electrical work has to be certified by a qualified electrician. You can install kit yourself, mostly, but for smaller jobs the cost of certification ends up with it being cheaper to get the guy in to fit the kit and certify it as one. I doubt that would be the case here.
