Over two months have passed since my last post. I logged into this site and wondered what had happened. I seemed to have changed the theme. I Forgot about that. I actually don’t remember doing that. Humm, I suspect something has failed in the update process.
I’m working from home, 100%, since March. It is the best thing I’ve ever done. I have my development environment setup and I work so efficiently now. I have invested in a new air handling system so I have fresh, filtered air. I have new UPS resources following a power outage that cause chaos to my systems that were not already on UPS protection. I have an MTAC screen installed now as well. Awesome.
So COVID-19 has inflicted the biggest upset to our lives since WW2. I have been contributing to the research project Folding@home for about eight years. This uses my computers to work out the behaviour of Proteins. All run by Stanford University. All clever stuff and way over my head. When COVID came along F@H jumped on the case, and along with it came masses of new contributors, server farms, data centres, and high end gaming platforms. This resulted in the coincidental construction of the biggest combined parallel process in the history of computing. At 2.4 ExaFLOPs (2.4 x 10 ^ 18) this was the same power as all of the top 500 supercomputers, combined. My hard earned score lost 20,00 positions in a week, so I fought back, every compute platform was running 18 hours a day, flat out. I had massive problems getting rid of the heat and I was going deaf with the noise of all the fans. I have got through 900 work units, tiny pieces to a huge jigsaw. BUT, I demolished £150 of electricity in the process. I have backed off a lot now!!
Dealing with Dad has also featured greatly. I have got him, and Mum, laid to rest. No funeral as they are not allowed due to the Lockdown. I will get that done later. The stone is on order. The house is beginning to be processed now after not being able to visit for some eight weeks. The estate is in the hands of the Solicitor. I still cannot get my head around that he has gone.
With the Lockdown I lost the gym. Then I lost the muscle mass. Damn annoying but I can get that back. I am using Hollys bike to get some exercise in. Getting out to exercise is not so easy now but I will get there. I have Brother-in-Laws BarBell to play with also.
At the end of March I went to Westonbirt to get another load of wood. I brought it back and chopped it up. Good job. It was at that point I managed to wreck my back to a new level, even for me. Today I went to visit Sam at the Carl Todd Clinic to figure out what I had done and what to do to fix it. Sam applied his wisdom and treatment and I have a plan to move on from the worst pain I have ever experienced. Thanks for that Sam!
It was at that point that I discovered that Sam is actually reading my ramblings on here to see how I am getting on with the Gym. Well, I shall neglect this blog no longer. At least I have one reader. Many thanks Sam and feel free to comment or get in contact.
