Probably not, but I was missing for while.\u00a0 This site, all my sites, were down.\u00a0 I have closed down the incredibly thirsty Enterprise Servers and spent some cash on duplicating the hardware that drives the weather station.\u00a0 The big problem was justification of the running costs.\u00a0 It was running into pounds per day.\u00a0 So it was either figure out how to make money with this kit, or rethink.\u00a0 Knocking the idea in 50 different directions I could not see any profit to be made, and even more potential problems, and for what.\u00a0 It was rethink time then.<\/p>\n
So, a dual processor, high performance, high availability server becomes an RPi2 with a hard disk attached.\u00a0 But the crazy thing about this \u00a330 box is its almost the same feel as its big cousins that sit, cold and silent, downstairs.<\/p>\n
Even more bizarre, and it was only just this second I realised this, the new platform has thirty times more storage space, give or take, than the enterprise server!!\u00a0 The hard disk is a Seagate USB magnetic drive of the 1TB variety.\u00a0 Massively more than I really need here and twice as much as the weather station implementation.\u00a0 I could have got a 500Gb and it would have saved me a grand total of \u00a32.<\/p>\n
So no redundancy in the design, although it is UPS backed, which the ESs were not.\u00a0 So I will have to back it up more often.\u00a0 If it really fell over I can switch back to the ES.\u00a0 However, the weather station platform has been running for literally months.\u00a0 What more can I ask for?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
